Like the Hawaiian district it’s named after, the Hyundai Kona is HOT, specially in this “pulse red” color that might not be too far from being also called “volcanic red.” Equipped with a 1.6 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine, this compact SUV has no problem keeping up with traffic, that’s what 175 HP and 195 lb.-ft. of torque is able to do.
Kona’s design cues look very modern with a hint of athleticism, the wide plastic wheel arches also give this vehicle a welcomed off-roading appeal, very nice! In spite of being a compact SUV, the cabin feels spacious and very well appointed, hard plastics are everywhere but they look durable and nicely fitted.
The Kona won the “2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year”, a prestigious award that when looking at the whole package it makes perfect sense. Hyundai didn’t skimp on the tech inside the Kona, the generous 8 inch LCD infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto works like a charm.
We found a very well executed compact SUV in the Kona, design wise it’s very handsome, it comes loaded with modern tech, powerful and safe, what a great package!
Base MSRP: $18,740 (august 2019)
